Final Theses Colloquium
Description
To help you successfully master the last hurdle of your Bachelor or Master studies at the University of Osnabrück, the Chair of Macroeconomics organizes a mandatory colloquium every semester to ensure the best possible supervision of your thesis.
For your registration nothing changes in the first step. If you would like to write your bachelor or master thesis at the Chair of Macroeconomics, please apply as usual via OPIUM.
If you have been selected during the allocation process, you and the other participants of the colloquium will receive an invitation from our chair to a first colloquium date. On this first date the following points will be discussed:
a) Which formal criteria have to be considered from the point of view of the examination office and the Chair of Macroeconomics?
b) What is your personal time horizon for the completion of the thesis?
c) Should it be an empirical or theoretical thesis?
d) What is the thematic focus of the thesis?
e) Who will/should supervise the thesis?
f) What is the further schedule of the colloquium?
You should first think about points b) to e) independently.
In the further course of the final thesis colloquium you will have the opportunity to present your work two or three times in the plenary session, starting with a rough draft of the structure and ending with the first results. In this way you will receive feedback at crucial points of your work, which will signal to you which weaknesses may exist and which strategies can be taken in order to take corrective action in time. Finally, the colloquium also serves to facilitate mutual support among the participants.
However, these joint sessions should not replace individual support. According to your personal needs, the staff of our chair will continue to be available for one-on-one meetings.
Rules for proposed topics
If you have your own topic suggestions for your thesis, the Chair of Macroeconomics is generally open to them. Alternatively, the
Chair will present a selection of topics for which you can express your preferences at the preliminary meeting.
Formalities
You must submit at least two paper copies to the Examination Office
and send a PDF version to your supervisor by e-mail. In general, you will need to contact the Examination Office to find out about the exact formalities.
